A national conference for helping professionals and their organizations that deal with secondary traumatic stress, vicarious trauma and the impact of trauma on the mind and body is scheduled for Nov. 1, 2013, in Los Angeles.

Presented by the S. Mark Taper Foundation Child Trauma Training Academy at Children’s Institute, Inc., an Alliance-member agency, the conference, titled In Harm’s Way: A Conference for Trauma-Informed Care and Secondary Traumatic Stress, will cover the latest about trauma-informed practice in child welfare and children’s mental health. 


 The conference brings a full day of programming on reducing the risk of secondary traumatic stress and vicarious trauma, with special keynotes by Joan Borysenko on wellness and self-care, by Pat Levitt on toxic stress and its impact on early learning and health, as well as a heal-the-healer presentation by Jerry Tello.

Participants will also connect with experts and other helping professionals and organizations who are leading the way in wellness strategies in the workplace.The event will be held at the Renaissance Los Angeles Hotel at 9620 Airport Blvd. in Los Angeles.
