The Center for Adoption Support and Education and Alliance-member agency Lilliput Children’s Services are presenting Training for Adoption Competency (TAC), beginning in October and ending September 2014.

TAC is a national intensive training program specifically designed to provide mental health professionals with the clinical knowledge and skills needed to provide competent services to adoptive youth and families, children preparing for adoption, birth family and perspective adoptive parents.

TAC integrates in-depth classroom learning with clinical case consultation to transfer learning to practice. TAC is a competency based training curriculum developed in collaboration with national experts in the field of child welfare, adoption and mental health with on-going participant and trainer feedback. This program has been rigorously evaluated at the University of Maryland, School of Social Work.

Following the 13 module sessions, students are invited to participate in six months of case consultation with Debbie B. Riley, Chief Executive Officer, of Center for Adoption, Support and Education. Riley is a marriage and family therapist, author and international speaker with more than 30 years’ experience in helping children, adolescents and their families.

Training dates are the first Monday of the month beginning Oct. 7, 2013, and ending on Sept. 8, 2014 (this is the second Monday due to Labor Day). Each session is 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Lilliput Children’s Services, 747 N. Pershing Ave., Stockton, CA 95203. The cost is $1,800 per person and 78 hours of CEUs are available.
