A free two-day workshop entitled, "Navigating to Advocating: Supporting School Success,” will address trauma in the school environment.

The seminar is scheduled for Feb. 7 and 8 at Alliance-member agency Stanford Youth Solutions, 8912 Volunteer Lane in Sacramento. It is sponsored by members of the Community Champions Network and American River College Foster & Kinship Care Education.

The Feb. 7 session is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and addresses the impact of trauma on the school environment, including the unique core issues for foster and adopted children, how trauma impacts behavior in the classroom and why social skills might be a challenge. Dinner is provided.

On Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the workshop covers combating the effects of trauma on learning, including lessening the impact of trauma in the classroom, bringing learning home and understanding the special education maze: from SSTs to IEPs and more. Continental breakfast and lunch are provided.

The deadline for reservations is Feb. 1. Call Caitlin Lewis at (916) 923-5444 or through email at
