“Who’s Bullying Whom? Stopping Coercion and the Culture of Violence in Residential Services” is the topic of an upcoming webinar by the American Association of Children’s Residential Centers, being held July 11, 2014 from 9-11 a.m.

Bullying is a hands-off form of violence entrenched in American culture. This workshop addresses all aspects of bullying in residential treatment and includes both victimization and perpetration. It provides an opportunity to transform both organizational culture and milieu work through transparent efforts to stop bullying everywhere.

The learning goals for participants:

·         Understand the impact of coercive practices and bullying in residential treatment.

·         Demonstrate ways to eliminate a culture of violence through positive youth development, and

·         Describe core elements and effective interventions for bullying prevention in residential treatment.

Presenting is Joann Schladale, M.S., L.M.F.T., who has worked in youth violence prevention since 1981. As founder of Resources For Resolving Violence, Inc., she provides extensive consultation, program development and training on empirically driven practices relating to trauma, juvenile justice, mental health, child welfare and teen pregnancy prevention. She has written numerous book chapters, two therapeutic workbooks, and co-authored Community-Based Standards for Addressing Sexual Harm By Youth (2007) and Stop It! A Practical Guide for Youth Violence Prevention (2012).
