Alliance-member agency Casa Pacifica Centers for Children & Families is holding an Advanced Clinical Supervision training on Feb. 12, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Casa Pacifica in Camarillo.

Supervision is a task that requires a range of skills including teaching, modeling, supporting and guiding as well as knowledge in theory, direct practice, legal and ethics issues and a variety of mental health and social services issues. In this course participants will learn advanced supervisory skills. Topics include: supervising trauma work and addressing vicarious traumatization in supervision; group supervision; termination; documenting supervision; cross-cultural and multicultural issues in supervision; and addressing difficult problems.

The instructor is Rachel B. Michaelsen, LCSW, who is a clinical social worker who has supervised mental health professionals since 1996. She started teaching classes on supervision in 2000 (Alliant International University, JFK University, Smith College, NASW, CAMFT, Seneca Center and A Better Way). She is a California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT)-certified supervisor, and has a Certificate in Advanced Clinical Supervision from Smith College School for Social Work. Ms. Michaelsen works with adults and couples in her psychotherapy practice and provides clinical supervision in Oakland.
