California State Senator Scott Wiener and Assemblymember Corey Jackson Recognized as 2024 Legislative Awardees by California Alliance

 

Sacramento, CA – The California Alliance of Children and Family Services (CA Alliance) is  honoring California State Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblymember Corey Jackson (D-Moreno Valley) with their 2024 Legislative Award on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, during the 2024 California Alliance Winter Conference. Senator Wiener and Assemblymember Jackson are being recognized for their dedication and exceptional advocacy on behalf of children, youth, and families in California.

 

Senator Scott Wiener represents San Francisco and northern San Mateo County in the California State Senate. Among the legislation he has proposed or passed in the State Senate include:

  • SB 294 – Removes barriers to youth accessing mental health treatments by requiring that any private insurance treatment denials be automatically referred to the state’s existing Independent Medical Review process.
  • SB 407 – Requires the Department of Social Services to take additional steps to ensure foster families are affirming to LGBTQ youth.
  • SB 1004 – Strengthening Early Intervention Mental Health Services for Youth – Ensures access to effective, quality early intervention mental health care in counties across the state.

 

Assemblymember Corey A. Jackson, DSW, MSW, represents the 60th Assembly District of Riverside County. In 2023, he chaired the Human Services Committee and currently serves as the chair of the Budget Subcommittee on Human Services. He also chairs the Select Committee on the Mental Health Crisis in California. Among the legislation he has proposed or passed in the State Assembly include:

  • AB 426 – Authorizes CDSS to assess an immediate civil penalty in the amount of $1000 per day for providing unlicensed residential care for children.
  • AB 1078 – This bill takes a bold stance against the disturbing trend of book banning observed not only in California but across the nation. Recent events have underscored the urgent need to protect our most vulnerable communities from the harmful impacts of censorship.
  • AB 1450 –This bill would require all schools to conduct universal Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) screenings and mental health assessments, as well as dyslexia screenings.
