Pete Weldy

CEO

Pete is the incoming CEO of the Alliance, bringing a lifelong commitment to improving the welfare, health, and happiness of children, youth, and families by advancing solutions that are more equitable, responsive, and compassionate. With deep experience across public policy, nonprofit leadership, and government administration, Pete is dedicated to ensuring that policy and practice reflect the real needs of communities.

Most recently, Pete served as Regional Administrator for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Administration for Children and Families (ACF) in San Francisco, where he led 65 staff across a portfolio of human services programs totaling more than $12 billion of federal investments distributed across 10 states and territories and 157 Tribes.

Pete’s cross-sector leadership experience spans philanthropy, consulting, and state government, including as Director of Public Policy at Silicon Valley Community Foundation where he led strategic initiatives and launched the Choose Children 2018 campaign to elevate early childhood issues in the California Governor’s race.

In his home state of Indiana, he served as the Director of Policy and Research at the Department of Education where he authored a new strategic plan and advocated before the legislature. He began his career working for elected leaders in the Indiana House of Representatives.

Pete also serves on several boards of directors, including Full Circle Health Network (soon) and Parents as Teachers, a highly respected international organization that provides evidence-based home visiting services to families. Pete has been the recipient of numerous service and leadership awards during his career, including San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria’s recognition of “Pete Weldy Day.”

Throughout his career, Pete has built coalitions to advance meaningful change on behalf of kids and families who are often overlooked by systems of power. He is a skilled strategist, communicator, and policy leader who understands how to navigate complex institutions while centering the needs of providers and the people they serve. Pete holds a BA in Music and Education from Butler University in Indianapolis and now lives in San Francisco with his wife, Karla, and their two cats.
